In mid-June 2025, more than 100 creative minds from Austria, Japan, and around the world came together at a temple between Osaka and Nara for the Music & AI Hackathon - a unique, cross-cultural event exploring how artificial intelligence can shape the future of music. Over an intense 24-hour sprint, teams worked on four challenges:
• Music Education for Children
• Mood-based Music
• Culture and Music
• The Future of Music
The winning team, “Doraemon,” developed an AI-powered solution that analyzes diary entries and suggests music to match the emotional tone - a compelling intersection of language, emotion, and sound. On the final day, we visited the Austrian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, where participants tested their knowledge of Austria in a quiz and enjoyed a live performance by Nobumichi Tosa, inventor of the Otamatone and one of the event’s challenge partners.
Organized by USECON and the Glovill Foundation, and supported by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA and go-international, this hackathon was a perfect match for the Austrian Pavilion's theme: Composing the Future - Together.
