What makes your innovation unique?
AHEAD is a pioneering project by Takeda and AIT to make industrial processes more environmentally friendly. The innovation consists of a steam-generating heat pump, which has been adapted for use with the natural refrigerant butane and combined with vapour compressors to achieve the highest heat utilisation temperatures to date.
Advantages
• The system offers an environmentally friendly solution for the CO₂-free supply of steam for industrial processes, which is unique in this form.
• It has the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 80% – around 1600 tonnes per year (at one of Takeda's largest pharmaceutical production sites in Vienna).
• It supports Takeda's global sustainability goals to operate its facilities with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions before 2035.
